Measure Q
State takeaways from community colleges have been devastating, and it was clear that
the Solano Community College District could not rely on Sacramento to adequately fund
local community colleges. After months of public input, engaging over 1,000 constituents,
Solano Community College District's Board of Trustees voted to place the Measure Q
Bond (Student/Veterans’ Affordable Education, Job Training/Classroom Repair Measure)
on the November 2012 ballot. Citizens of Solano County stepped up once again and invested
in their futures by voting to improve and expand the facilities of the Solano Community
College District with the passage of the Measure Q Bond.
With the Measure Q Bond the District will continue the work it began under Measure
G and help ensure that Solano Community College can continue to provide high quality
and affordable college options for students, active military, and local veterans.
The District has plans to expand affordable education opportunities through a Middle
College program that will allow high school students to earn an Associate’s Degree,
saving them two years of college expenses on their way to a four-year degree. We will
fund the technology and infrastructure necessary to expand access to university courses
through partnership programs with California State University Maritime Academy and
Sonoma State, as well as at the University of California at Davis and Berkeley. These
efforts will allow students to remain in the county where they already live and work
and complete their four-year degrees.
Needless to say, we are extremely pleased and proud of all of our accomplishments
thus far and will continue to move forward, working to create a truly top quality
institution of higher learning that the people of Solano County can be equally and
justifiably proud to call their own -- Solano Community College.
